GNOWANERUP BAKERY Notes from Trevor Halls, related to George Bennett’s. My Great Grandfather is G. H. Bennetts of Bennetts Bakery. He worked in partnership there just prior to the Great War with his half brother, my Great Great Uncle Walter (Wally) Nichols who was in the 3rd Light Mortar and arrived Gallipoli July 1915, who returned home 1919. George Bennetts subsequently owned the Serpentine Bakery during WW2. Eric, Grace, Sheila (my Grandmother), Elsie and youngest Ruth are the son & daughters of George. The photo of the Bakery circa 1914: The 2 children out the front would be Eric & Grace.

Sheila, my grandmother was born 1913 and would have been a baby then. Prior to Gnowangerup, the Bennetts family originated from Albany. Albany is where all the children were born. Other branches of family were based in Albany. First marriage was in the 1860's. The family arrived as part of the Pioneering settlement background, not part of the convict transport background” |
